- Simple pompom disk or 2 rolls of toilet paper without the paper or a fork or cardboard mold;
- Crochet hook size 3 or 4;
- Scissors.
Step by step how to make wool pompom
1. Fork technique
- This technique works well for making mini pompoms.
- Take a fork of any size and wrap the wool around your teeth several times. The more rounds you make in the fork, the more cozy the pompom will be;
- When you are the size you want, cut the wire. Be careful not to loosen and loosen;
- Take a piece of the same string that you used to roll up the fork, or a thinner piece of string, and tie the rolled wool right down the middle. You will pass this line between the teeth of the fork, which wrap the wrapped bundle of wool on the fork and tie it with a strong knot;
- Remove the bundle of wool tied in the middle of the forks, take the scissors and cut the ends of the wool in half. The pompom is already beginning to form;
- Cut the ends so that the bobble is well rounded. Don’t cut the line you tied in the middle of the bundle as it will serve to assemble the carpet;
- If you want it to be cozy, use the tip of the scissors to peel the ends of the wool off the pompom.
2. Toilet paper roll technology
- This technique will help you make larger pom poms;
- Take two rolls of toilet paper out of the paper. Let’s use the cardboard stand where the toilet paper is rolled up;
- Hold the two side by side and start wrapping the wool around the two at the same time;
- The more you turn, the cozier and bigger your pompom becomes;
- When you get the amount you want, cut a piece of the same thread that you use to wrap the supports and tie the bundle of wool exactly in the middle, making a strong knot;
- Remove the clamps, pull the knot in the middle of the bundle of wool and cut the ends of the wool in half to form the pompom;
- Cut the tips by leveling all of the threads and giving your pompom the rounded shape. Don’t cut the line you tied in the middle of the bundle as it will serve to assemble the carpet;
3. Cardboard mold technique
- The cardboard shape is easy to make, cut a rectangle and position it horizontally, that is, the smaller sides are vertical and the larger sides are horizontal;
- Mark the center of the height of the rectangle and make a cut that will lead to the center of the rectangle;
- This cut should stay open, it should be a couple of inches wide because that’s where you will pass the line that joins the center of your pompom;
- Wrap the wool around the cardboard in the area that has the cut in the middle. Just like in other techniques, the more you twist with the wool, the bigger and softer your pompom will be;
- When you get the amount you want, cut a piece of the same thread that you use to wrap the shape and tie the bundle of wool exactly in the middle, making a strong knot;
- Remove the bundle of wool from the mold, pull the knot tight and cut the ends of the wool in half, forming the bobble;
- Cut the tips by leveling all of the threads and giving your pompom the rounded shape. Don’t cut the line you tied in the middle of the bundle as it will serve to assemble the carpet;
4. Hand technique
- In this technique, you use the fingers of your hand as a support to wrap the wool;
- Connect 3 fingers of the hand and wrap the wool around them. You’ll need to give between 60 and 100 rounds depending on how full you want the pompom to stay;
- When you have reached the desired amount, cut a piece of the same thread that you are using and tie the bundle of wool exactly in the middle, making a strong knot;
- Remove the bunch of fingers, tighten the knot and cut the ends of the wool in half, forming the pompom;
- Cut the tips by leveling all of the threads and giving your pompom the rounded shape. Don’t cut the line that you tied in the middle of the bundle as this will serve to assemble the carpet.
5. Make several pompoms at the same time
- To make the process of making your rug easier, ideally you can make several pompoms at the same time.
- For this you need a frame in the desired size. The larger the frame, the more pompoms you can make at the same time;
- Wrap the wool around the frame as in the other techniques;
- Use woolen yarn to divide the rolled wool into equal pieces;
- Use scissors to cut between the divisions and finish off the pompoms one at a time as taught in the prior art.
How to make carpet step by step
Once you’ve made the pom poms, the next step is to assemble the rug.
1. Define the size of your carpet

At this time, it is your creativity that commands you can cut a round, oval, square, rectangular, and even animal-shaped rug. There are tapestries that are made with non-slip material, which makes your carpet beautiful, safe.
2. Start the assembly
Assembling is pretty straightforward, you will pass the wool yarns that you left on each pompom, the ones that were used to tie the bundle of wool in the middle, through the holes in the upholstery fabric and tie. Use the crochet hook to thread the lines through the small holes on the screen and create the colors and shapes you want.
It will take you around 5 minutes to make each bobble to start, but once it’s in production it will take around 2 minutes each. If you follow the technique of making multiple pompoms at a time, you can make 4 to 7 pompoms in 10 minutes.
And to get an idea of how much work you spend on a 95 cm rug, you need 564 units. You should also think about how much wool yarn it will take to make this rug. Get ready to purchase at least 60 strands of 40g each. If you want to assemble a colorful rug, buy 5 strands of each color.
Yes it is hard work but the end result is a good thing and it will make your rooms a lot nicer and cozier.
